For Those Dark Days Before Christmas…

It’s that time of the year again – I’m referring to All Hallow’s Eve. (Say what?) It’s a time for remembering the dead; though for many a movie villain it’s about causing death rather than remembrance. (Hang on a second, Syncho-man…) Horror movies, of course, are very popular around Halloween. STOP! Okay, Halloween was ages ago and I forgot to post this. So, here you go.

Raising Hell – What’s your pleasure?

It all started with a novel. A fairly short one, consisting of 186 pages. Clive Barker’s The Hellbound Heart was released in 1986 by Dark Harvest; and later that year Barker himself started work on its film adaptation Hellraiser, which was released in cinemas in the autumn of 1987. Ten sequels later, a revamped Hellraiser is back, albeit on a streaming service. Synchrotones has had a listen to the various scores that blessed and cursed this franchise. Dare I ask… which ones nailed it?

The movie, the score, the legend… the book

Legends of the Fall” has long been regarded as one of the late James Horner’s finest works. It’s an emotional powerhouse full of sweeping melodies and rich orchestrations. It shows Horner at his very best and it kickstarted his, arguably, most successful period, the mid 90s, when he scored “Casper“, “Balto“, “Apollo 13“, “Braveheart” and the Oscar-winning “Titanic“. The full printed score to the epic “Legends of the Fall” is now available via Chris Siddall Music Publishing.
